When CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) came into existence they allowed more ease for web designers, as CSS allows you to seperate the physical layout of a website from its style and design elements.

- Clear, concise navigation This is vital if you want your users to be able to easily use your website without getting frustrated. Ask yourself “where do I want me users to go?” and then make it obvious.
- White space can be used as a visual aid to help users easily identify areas of the page that are of interest to them. By using white space with skill you can effectively carve out a path for your visitors to your most important content.
- No tables, as mentioned above CSS style sheets are the way forward and enable a web designer to separate structure from design. Tables were the method used to layout a website before the existence of style sheets and are now mostly obsolete except in cases when you do actually want to display a table.
- You need a fast webiste. The speed of your website is now used as a ranking factor in google’s algorithm. While not inhibiting your natural design flare it is important to make some compromises when it comes to the speed of your page.
- Making sure that your website can support a number of different internet browsers will help you reach the largest audience possible. Having your website displayed properly on all web browsers will help maintain your site and company image. You will need to pay special attention to internet explorer as it does things a little differently to the other maintream browsing options.
